What is HKLUG?

Hong Kong Linux User Group (HKLUG) is a non-profit organization by some Hong Kong GNU/Linux lovers. It is aimed to gather GNU/Linux users in Hong Kong, providing chances for them to exchange experience on GNU/Linux, helping new users of GNU/Linux, promoting GNU/Linux in Hong Kong and promoting communication with GNU/Linux users and GNU/Linux User Groups in other geographic areas; in order to help the GNU/Linux Community. HKLUG is Hong Kong Registered Society No. 21299 under Societies Ordinance.

History

In 1990s, several HKLUG or similar organizations have been established by different groups of people. However, most are stopped due to some problem. In October 1997, some Hong Kong GNU/Linux users discussed in StarZine starforum.comp.unix that they want to have a local LUG in Hong Kong. They met on IRC and vote for the EXCO team re-establishing the HKLUG.
