Free/Open Source Moment is not only a new technology. But also a spirit of knowledge sharing and revolution of the concept of Intellectual Property.

The Hong Kong Government has announced the consultation paper on "Copyright protection in the Digital Environment" in early January this year. Many has pointed out that the consultation is based on the interest of corporate copyright holders rather than individuals and consumers. Worse still, some suggestions within the consultation papers are threatening to freedom of speech and expression, and eventually the development of creative industry in Hong Kong.

HKLUG would like to see more people comment on the consultation paper and please to invite
CU Student Union – Intellectual Property Watch to have a talk on Apr 7th 2007 (Sat) in LT4, CityU on the topic "Copyright protection in the Digital Environment".

We will have an open seminar on Mar 3rd 2007 (Sat) in CityU on the topic "Compiz, Beryl, Metisse and Looking Glass - The future of FreeDesktop". On Mar 3rd Talk, we will try to show the power of recently cool desktop effect including Compiz/Beryl, Metisse and Sun's Looking Glass and try to discuss the future of 3D Desktop. People who are interested on Free Software on Desktop usage is welcome to attend the FOSSTalk and share you opinion on FreeDesktop.
