關於Remy Suen

Remy Suen is an undergraduate at the University of Waterloo, Canada. His experiences with Linux began around the fall of 2004 when he decided to give Linux a whirl by splitting his notebook into two partitions so that he could dual-boot Gentoo Linux with Windows XP on his system. Unfortunately, everytime GRUB came up, Windows XP was always picked and nothing came out of it. Shortly after, his notebook was stolen.

Having bought a new notebook replacement, he figured that the only way to really force himself to try Linux was to use it everyday. With that, he took a dive into Gentoo Linux head first by completely wiping Windows XP from his brand new notebook and putting Gentoo Linux as the only operating system. Since then, Gentoo Linux has been his primary operating system.

His first encounter with working with an open source project is with the Java-GNOME (http://java-gnome.sourceforge.net [2]) project. Hearing on IRC that there was going to be a meeting of hackers a bus ride away this coming weekend, he hopped on the bus on Saturday and took the one hour trip to Red Hat's Toronto office. Since then, he has been an active contributor to the project and has been awarded committer status since February of this year.

Remy also has an interest in networking protocols, having written an implementation of the protocol used by MSN Messenger 7.0 in pure Java. In May of this year, he sent an application to, and was selected for, Google's Summer of Code program for the Eclipse project (http://www.eclipse.org [3]) to implement the BitTorrent protocol in hopes of letting the ECF project (http://www.eclipse.org/ecf [4]) and the Eclipse Platform's Update Manager retrieve files through BitTorrent.

Remy's past internships include the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation in Hong Kong, NCR Ltd. at Waterloo, Canada, and IBM China Research Labs in Beijing.
