FSG與OSDL合併組成Linux Foundation

週日，Free Standards Group (FSG) 和Open Source Development Labs (OSDL)宣佈合併並組成Linux Foundation。新組織將由原本FSG的執行總監Jim Zemlin領導。

[新聞] Sun重新採用Intel晶片

本周一，Sun(昇陽)和Intel(英特爾)達成協議，Sun將在其部份新產品中採用Intel 的晶片。過往Sun在x86的伺服器一直使用AMD。這個協議對AMD有一定程度打擊。 Sun表示仍會繼續使用AMD的Opteron晶片和Sun本身的Sparc處理器。然而有不少人亦關心這次協議對GNU/Linux有多大影響和Sun會否成次改變其對 GNU/Linux的政策。

當被問及這次協議對GNU/Linux是否壞消息，Sun的CEO Jonathan Schwartz回答：「最終人們會選擇對他們產生最大價值的操作系統。」

LinuxWorkshop: Ubuntu 安裝及 3D桌面

12月1日的GNU/Linux安裝班由於反應熱烈，名額很快爆滿。為多謝各會員及GNU/Linux愛好者的支持，主會特別向新華理大培訓及研發中心(SWP)借用場地特別在2007年1月9日(週二)加開一班。和上次相同，是次工作坊主要教授Ubuntu安裝及簡介3D桌面(AIGLX+Beryl)的設定。

美國 Walmart 將銷售廉價 GNU/Linux 筆記簿型電腦

美國連鎖超市巨頭沃爾瑪(Walmart)將銷售預裝 GNU/Linux 的低價筆記簿型電腦。生産商 Linare 表示這批筆記簿型電腦採用 AMD Atholon 1800+ ，有 40GB 硬盤， 128 MB 內存，CD-ROM 驅動器，乙太網絡連接埠， Linare OS 及 OpenOffice 。這個價格比沃爾瑪現時最低價的筆記簿型電腦還要便宜及吸引的硬件配置。Linare 早前已在沃爾瑪的網站銷售其二百美元的桌面個人電腦。
